Gordon County includes five municipalities: Calhoun, Fairmount, Plainville, Ranger and Resaca. It is the only county in the state to boast two national state parks and is rich in Civil War and Indian History. It is home of the Dixie Yard Sale, the longest yard sale in the United States and each Spring, it presents its popular street festival, More Than A Taste of Calhoun, which draws several thousand visitors.

The population is approximately 54,000 in the county and 15,000 in Calhoun. In addition to service industries, the economy of Gordon County is rooted in manufacturing and industry. Mohawk Industries, a leading manufacturer of flooring, is headquartered in Gordon County. In addition, Shaw Industries and LG Hausys are present in Gordon County.

Gordon County has a total area of 358 square miles (927.2 km2), of which 356 square miles (922.0 km2) is land and 2 square miles (5.2 km2) (0.69%) is water.
